Doreen Boxer

As co-founder and partner of Boxer McLaughlin, Doreen Boxerputs her past experience as a public defender to work for criminal and civil litigants in Orange County and the greater Los Angeles area. Ms. Boxer and the team at her firm defend clients in matters that range from tax fraud, professional licensing disputes, and official misconduct to violent crimes, drug possession, domestic offenses, and driving under the influence. Her previous work for public agencies in a variety of California and New York jurisdictions has given Doreen Boxer the background and expertise to protect her clients from harassment by law enforcement authorities and government prosecution.

Prior to establishing Boxer McLaughlin, Doreen Boxer served for nearly five years as head of the San Bernardino County Public Defender's Office. Before that, she defended persons accused of crimes in Brooklyn, New York, and Los Angeles and Orange Counties. As a trial lawyer, Ms. Boxerdealt with all aspects of pre-trial investigation, trial litigation, and negotiations with prosecuting agencies. Most of her caseload involved individual clients, whether charged with misdemeanors like DUI, petty theft, or various code enforcement violations, or with violent felonies like rape, assault, or homicide. In San Bernardino County, she managed a staff of 270 and an annual budget of $31 million. During her administration in San Bernardino, the attorneys Doreen Boxer managed were more successful than before she took office, winning more dismissals and acquittals than ever before in that county's history.

Doreen Boxer has published many articles on legal procedures and issues. More than a dozen of her Trial Tips" columns have appeared in California Defender Magazine, regarding such topics as contempt of court, juror misconduct, and immunity agreements. "Ms. Boxerhas also co-authored essays for several editions of the Criminal Evidence Handbook. She maintains memberships in the Federal Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Possessor of a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Marketing from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, Doreen Boxer received her Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University. She subsequently attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University to obtain a Certificate for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. Doreen Boxer maintains licenses to practice law in the states of California and New York, as well as a number of federal jurisdictions.
